Be on your guard

On June 22, 2007

I stumbled upon Mrs. McDonalds blog and her latest post was titled Walking Billboards and was kind of shocked at her matter-of-factness, but I agree with her and I quote

…we must remember that we encounter shocking scenes every day—at the grocery store, driving down the street, and even at church.

Her article was mainly pointed at women, and I’ll take off of it for men.

When I’m talking about this, every man and boy past puberty knows what I’m talking about. God made us all the same and it’s no new thing. We have to take captive our thoughts and actions.

Ephesians 5:3 “But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.”

Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Where do you look in the grocery check out line? Talk about a gauntlet with all those magazines on each side. These days it’s hard to find a “clean” place to look, especially in the summer.

2 Corinthians 10:5 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”

That’s a challenge for you strait from the Bible (so whats new?). It’s hard, believe me brother, it’s hard.

Proverbs 6:23-25 “For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life, keeping you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of the wayward wife. Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes

You have a choice, men, what are you going to do? You see a stumbling block walking down the street. What are you going to do, stare or turn the other way? The fruit on The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil looked good, but God said not to eat of it. The chick walking down the street looked good, but God said not to lust after her, and keep pure thoughts.

Matthew 5:27-28 “Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt not commit adultery: but I say unto you, that every one that looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

John 14:15 “If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments.”

If you don’t love and serve God, who else do you and serve? There are two destinations; Heaven or Hell. Your bound for ether one of those, you just have to make the choice. It’s not easy to be a follower of Christ. It’s not easy to avert your eyes or thoughts when temptation walks by.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I agree completely. Way to be honest and say what needs so desperately to be said. Thanks!

Good post.

Usually when I’m faced with those situations I’ll either take the person out of focus or look elsewhere — I love it when girls are dressed modestly. If we see women as sisters instead of objects or just another woman, it can also help. I’m not a father, but I know if I was I wouldn’t want anyone seeing my daughter in a lustful way, which is also another way to look at it.
